the world is flat…

Today I talked with my great friend Drew for almost an hour. Drew lives in Germany and teaches english courses to German business tycoons. He’s basically a P.I.M.P. Anyway, after we parted ways I called my boss and found out I had the majority of the day off due to lack of events so I called another good friend of mine on Skype. Carolyn is her name and she is Nannying for a family in Switzerland as well as playing soccer for a swiss team.

Both conversations were amazing and made me really think about how fortunate we are to live in our current technological state. I can call anyone at any time and even see their face through my computer. I was able to share with Drew many deep things about my current life in Seattle. While I was sharing he was probably drinking a franziskanner and eating a giant pretzel in a German beer hall built in the 1200’s … or maybe just in his home, but still totally plausible.

I have friends all over the world and I talk to them Monthly if not weekly or even daily… as if they were in my living room.

I can even use my US cell  phone here to send text messages to my little greek friend in china on his chinese cell phone … raftopolis!

As I think more about this I am comforted because our world is flat, I am able to better sustain relationships that would’ve been on hiatus for months, years or even decades. I can be comforted by those who are in different time zones, cultures and habitats all over the planet.

I am truly a fortunate man….

Much love to my great friends around the world

  1. I’m putting you on my blogroll. Get ready.

  2. I know – what would we do without technology? I definitely would not be reading your blog right now. But from now on, it will be a regular occurrence. 🙂

  3. Tay! Thanks for the shout out! We miss you over here! Heard you tried to call and it didn’t work. You should try again soon!
